How to know brewing Extract Efficiency in home brew
Actual measurement at brewing:
Malt Weight: 10 kg
Wort Weight: 40 L
Plato: 13.2%
We can get the sugar weight by following Formula
Wt. of sugar in wort = Wt. of pure water x Measurement in °Plato / (1-Measurement in °Plato)
=40 x 13.2% / (1- 13.2%)= 6.1 kg
That means we get 6.1 g sugar from 10 kg malt. The sugar yield is 61%
Meanwhile we know the Typical Yield of Malts from File records
Like 2- Row Lager Malt, we know its Max. Yield: 80%,
Then we can get our Actual Extract Efficiency 61%/80% = 76.25%
That means we lost 23.75% sugar.
About Actual Extract Efficiency, we need consider actual brewing operation, like brewing kit, material use, operation, and the most important is brewer.
So we need to know our brewing equipment, and keep brewing records. to get more and more sugar each time.
Practice makes perfect 🙂
Let’s brew now
